Using Media Controls

You can control Soundscape with the media buttons on your headphones: play/pause, next and previous. This works with wired and Bluetooth headphones. It also works when Soundscape is in the background or your phone is locked.

Not all headphones have all three buttons.

The buttons only control Soundscape when no other app is playing audio. If you are playing music or a podcast, the buttons control that app instead.

The buttons can work in two ways: Original mode or Audio menu. To choose, open the menu and select Settings, then Media Controls.

Original mode

Play/pause mutes the beacon. Press it again to hear the beacon.

Next moves the beacon to the next waypoint when you are following a route. Otherwise it calls out Around Me.

Previous moves the beacon to the previous waypoint when you are following a route. Otherwise it changes the Callout Detail. Each press moves one level quieter: Detailed, Simplified, Essential, then Silent. One more press returns to Detailed. Soundscape says the name of the new level.

The audio menu gives you more actions from the same three buttons. Soundscape reads each option aloud.

Next moves to the next option. After the last option it returns to the first.

Play/pause selects the option you just heard.

Previous changes the Callout Detail, the same as in Original mode.

The menu starts with four groups: Hear My Surroundings, Route control, Start Route and Start Audio Beacon. Select a group to hear its actions. Hear My Surroundings and Route control end with Top menu, which takes you back to the four groups.
