Audio Beacon

An audio beacon is a sound that plays from the direction of a place you choose. It tells you where the place is in a straight line. It does not give turn-by-turn directions, so you choose your own way there.

Setting a Beacon

  1. Find the place. Use the search bar, Places Nearby, Markers or Current Location on the home screen.

  2. Select the place to open Location Details.

  3. Select Start Audio Beacon.

Soundscape returns to the home screen and the beacon starts. The home screen shows the name of the place and how far away it is.

Finding the Direction

The beacon changes sound when you face the place or walk straight toward it. To find that sound, hold your phone flat and turn slowly. You can choose a different beacon sound in Settings.

Muting the Beacon

Select Mute Beacon on the home screen. Soundscape still tells you how far away the place is as you move. Select Unmute Beacon to hear the beacon again.

Removing the Beacon

Select Stop Route on the home screen. The button has this name even when the beacon is not part of a route.

When You Arrive

When you are about 40 feet from the place, Soundscape tells you and removes the beacon. Your phone cannot find your position more exactly than that. To hear the beacon again, set it again.

A beacon set on a place less than 100 feet away stays on until you remove it.
